Academics

The Visual and Performing Arts Dept. (VPAD) presents the play Harvey. Shows take place 11/6-11/15. This production is a collaborative effort with several college departments. Purchase Tickets here.

The VPAD showcased 鈥淪eeing the Invisible,鈥 a student art exhibition inspired by the College鈥檚 play Harvey. The exhibit features black-and-white grisaille oil paintings created by students in the Painting I course.

The LACE program hosted the Annual Pumpkin Float celebration for its students. A bench dedication was held at Horton Pond in memory of former LACE student Molly Anne Buyer.

Professor Daniel Warhol presented on Applying Writing Across the Disciplines Strategies at SCCC, sharing insights from workshops he attended at the International Writing Across the Curriculum Conference at Colorado State University.
SCCC hosted a Dispatcher Career Fair that allowed agencies to recruit dispatchers, connect with the community, and showcase their role in public safety.

The College looks to add a Sports Management degree, certification programs in Radiography, Pre-Physical Therapy, and Sonography, and a COA in Entrepreneurial Development.

Education and Child Development Program Prof. Vicki Vigorito and Adjunct Instructor Michele Tagliabue organized a children鈥檚 book donation drive to benefit Norwescap and Project Self-Sufficiency.

Automotive Supervisor Erin Primavera and adjunct Robert McDole, in partnership with Nissan of USA, secured the donation of 7 training vehicles to enhance students' hands-on training. The program also began certification training. SCCC has credentialed 215 students in a variety of industry-recognized NC3 credentials within the last 3 years.

Melissa DeJoseph, Sr. Coordinator of Academic Initiatives & Instructional Technology, participated in a NAIRR Pilot Community College discussion. The program connects educators and researchers with AI tools and resources.

Dr. Yolanda Wilson, President of the College of Southern Maryland, has been selected as the visiting team chair for the Spring 2026 Middle States Accreditation visit in the first week of December. She brings a wealth of experience and will help guide the team.

Athletics

Women's Soccer pulled off an incredible win over Mercer CCC to claim the Region XIX Division II title! Next stop: NJCAA National Tournament!

Congrats to Men鈥檚 Soccer for securing a spot in the Region XIX Tournament! The Skylanders posted a 6-2-2 record.

Student Affairs & Campus Life 

The College hosted the Fall Open House on 11/1. Over 70 students and their families toured the campus and explored our diverse academic programs, athletics, and clubs. Registration opens on 11/17 for winter and spring classes.

The College will host a student-veteran lunch on 11/5 at 11 am to bring the community together and mark the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps. The Newton VFW and American Legion are also invited.

Nov. 8th has been established as the First-Generation College Celebration Day, recognizing the achievements of first-gen students across the state. SCCC will host a reception on 11/12.

The Community Connections Office hosts several non-profit agencies. Students can connect with resources that address various needs. Agencies include Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Intervention, Norwescap鈥檚 SNAP navigator, the Center for Prevention, Project Self-Sufficiency, Sussex County Division of Health, and Sussex County Community and Youth Services. 

The Idiom & Image Magazine showcases the creative works of SCCC students, featuring poetry, creative writing, art, photography, and mixed media. .

Information Technology & Facilities

The College鈥檚 data conversion for its new Jenzabar ERP system is underway. The updated system will be used for financial and student information.

Community Partners

SCCC was awarded $1.25 million from a grant subcontract with Georgian Court University. The funds will help develop a comprehensive adult transition program that focuses on inclusivity, independence, and career support.

In partnership with SCARC and the ARC of NJ, the Adult Transition Center hosted a resource fair for providers specializing in supporting families with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

The College received eight nominations for the Sussex County Economic Development Awards:

The College strengthens connections with organizations across Sussex County. The advising staff visited Project Self-Sufficiency to learn about its programs; Benny鈥檚 Bodega visited campus to discuss partnership opportunities; Planet Networks is collaborating with the College to explore a telecommunications certificate; and the College is in discussions with Hudson Farm.

Family Promise of Sussex County is hosting a Veterans鈥 Resource Fair on 11/6 at 6 pm in the Student Center Theater. Local organizations will provide support services, including housing, employment, and community resources.

Foundation

The Foundation would like to thank everyone who supported and attended the 2025 Funding Their Future event. The Foundation raised over $100,200 (a 10% increase from last year). Funds will support scholarships and other College initiatives.

The Foundation received two grants on behalf of the Adult Transition Center. The Ann Talcott Fund and The Edward and Stella Van Houten Memorial Fund granted $15,000 to support the Center's programming and facility needs.

SCCC was awarded $12,000 from the Gene Haas Foundation to provide scholarships and sponsorships for students enrolled in CNC Technology or machining-based engineering programs.

The Foundation awarded 146 annual and endowed scholarships to 150 students enrolled in the 2025-26 academic year. To date, $157,475 in scholarships have been awarded.

Congratulations to the SCCC Alumni Association Executive Board: President, James Prior; 1st Vice President, Lori Ciampi; 2nd Vice President, Liz Delfino; Secretary, Cybele Tamulonis; Treasurer, Melissa Marshal; and At-Large, Tim O鈥機onnor.

Public Safety Training Academy

The PSTA has a 100% passing rate for the Fall 2025 Semester in Firefighter One & Two, Hazardous Materials, Traffic Incident Management, CPR/First Aid, and Rescue Taskforce Awareness.

The Sussex County Police Chiefs Association is purchasing a RedMan suit, protective gear used for defensive tactics training in law enforcement, corrections, and military settings, for use in the new defensive tactics space at the PSTA.
