Over 400,000 Irish migrants arrived in America in the 1800s, and many of the new arrivals were shunned by the US citizens. 鈥淢ile 59鈥� is based on a true story that takes place in current day and in 1832 when fifty-seven Irish immigrants came to America and worked on the Philadelphia-Columbia (P&C) Railroad, one of the first railways built in the United States. Tragically, all 57 immigrants died just six weeks after their arrival.听
